What a useful rack walkdown captures
By Noah Shin
A good rack walkdown is not a hunt for blame. It is a repeatable observation pass that makes small issues visible before they become noisy incidents. Teams should capture cable strain, airflow obstructions, labeling gaps, access constraints, and unclear ownership.
The most useful notes are concrete and easy to assign. A photo-free text record with location, impact, and next action is often enough.
Review the notes with shift leads within a week so the process becomes part of normal operations.
